(Just for the record ---and this has nothing to do with anything that I am preparing to say ---but, I don't like these abbreviations ...and I've never used the 'LOL' before, so this is a first, now the second, and hopefully the last time. But, enough of that now ...as I am going to look at the event of laughing at someone.)

I call it an unhealthy balance of focus on one's own comfort, interest, importance, and involvement. (Laughing at someone's expense, that is.)

There seems to be a real disconnect.

Why??

This week ...

I had to do some banking this week ...and it was rather busy, more than usual.

A man that was being served ...appeared to be having some account difficulty.  The worker was very patient with him ...and she painstakingly helped him through his problem, even involving a supervisor for assistance.

A lady ahead of me in line was seemingly not as patient ...whether it was just her personality, or she was perhaps in a hurry for a legitimate reason.  She turned her head to this side and that side, while sighing...and I could see her rolling her eyes.

Finally, it was her turn ...and she approached the same friendly lady who had served the troubled man.  The worker said, "Oh, that's a nice outfit you have ...where did you get it?"

The seemingly impatient lady, no longer seemed in a hurry, "Oh, do you really like it?  I got it from Kohl's ...they have a 30% off sale, well, actually they don't have the 30% off sale ...I got a flier through the mail, where I could scratch off to see if I would get 10%, 20%, or 30% ...and I got 30%. I only spend $700, but I saved $1,500, because I also could use the store's other savings incentives, and points I had saved up."

I did not roll my eyes.  I just quietly laughed to myself.

Why do people not get it??

Or do they not care to get it??

If a tree falls in the forest and there's no one there to hear it ...does it make a noise??

If a twig falls and hits someone else in the head, does it make a difference??  Or would you just leave?

Or if a twig falls on your head as you're entering the bank ...would you opt to turn around and go to another branch??
